Doodaddie News June/July/August 2008

Well we had a great April / May with two International Jazz Festivals one in Genting  Malaysia  and the other in Miri Sarawak. We were very well received at both festivals and the DooDaddies revelled in the excitement and attention.
We thought we may be off to Kathmandu for a blues festival later this year, (yes they do have a blues festival in Kathmandu) but maybe next year!

The Harp Attack at the Perth Blues Club back in May was sensational and very well attended. The Perth Blues Club puts on some great shows and I was delighted to attend Matt Taylor’s 60th birthday at the club recently. Matt was brilliant and so entertaining. Matt and his band Chain are an inspiration for Australian blues artists.

Clancy’s Fish pub in Fremantle was fantastic fun back on June the 21st. We had a crowd that was really switched on and man did they have some energy . It so good playing to a dancing crowd.

Next day after Clancy’s we played a champagne breakfast to celebrate my good friend Antone’s 40th birthday. Antone has a vineyard in the most beautiful valley in Carmel. His champagne is delicious. Although it is unusual setting up at about 9.30am on a Sunday morning after a late night, we managed to have great fun at Cosham Wines. Big thanks to Antone for everything and also Kim Bettnay for the excellent P.A system and his ability to mix the music perfectly. Three cheers for Cosham Wines and Happy Birthday Antone.

Big Al subbed in on guitar for a very sick Dave Brewer at the Parkerville Tavern on the last Sunday in June. The band was well received by the Parky crowd. We also had John Wilson on Bass at the Parkerville and a number of gigs as Bob Thomson was off cycling in Italy. Bob clocks up so many kilometres in a week on his bicycle, that the thought of it makes my bum sore!

Waikiki Hotel in Rockingham had us on a Friday night in July. The crowd was really good and into the dancing. Thanks to Roger Jenkins from True Blue Promotions for the work and his most pleasant manner.

News is we have been selected for the Bridgetown Blues Festival and will be heading for the festival in November 8th, 9th and 10th. We look forward to the big crowds and sensational atmosphere.

The DooDaddies have been working up a few new songs and Howlin Wolf is getting a good blast on our turntables, CD players and iPods. I love the Wolf groove. Dave Brewer and I recorded an original song on his phone which he subsequently e-mailed to me and I forwarded to the other DooDaddies.  I wonder what the Chess Brothers would  think !
